How does Skill Select Work?
SkillSelect is an online service that enables skilled workers and business people interested in migrating to Australia to record their details to be considered for a skilled visa through an Expression of Interest (EOI).
Intending migrants can then be found and nominated for skilled visas by Australian employers or state and territory governments, or they may be invited by the Australian Government to lodge a visa application.
From 1 July 2012, all intending migrants interested in the points based skilled migration or business investment and innovation visa programs will be required to submit an EOI and receive an invitation in order to lodge a visa application.
Can I check the progress of my online application?
Yes. You can check the progress of your online application using your ImmiAccount
Can I add a family member after I have lodged my visa application?
You can add family to your visa application for some visas.
If you have already lodged your visa application, your visa permits family members to be added during processing and DIBP have not made a decision, you can add a family member.
Can I pay for a visa label when I lodge my visa application?
Requests for visa labels will only be considered once your visa application has been finalised and you have been granted an Australian visa.
However, Australia is now visa label-free. This means you do not need a visa label in your passport to travel, enter or stay in Australia.
Do I need a visa label in my passport?
No. Australian visas are recorded electronically. You do not need a visa label in your passport to travel to, enter or stay in Australia.
How can I update my expression of interest?
You can update your expression of interest details using SkillSelect. You will not be able to update your expression of interest if you have already received an invitation to apply for a visa. If you do not apply within 60 days of receiving the invitation, it will expire and you will then be able to update your expression of interest again.
How will I know I have been issued a visa if I don’t have a visa label?
DIBP will send you a visa grant notification letter if DIBP grant you a visa. This letter will explain the conditions of the visa, including any entry requirements.
You should keep this letter with your passport when you travel to and from Australia. Keep it in a safe place when you are not travelling.
How will my visa be checked at the airport without a visa label?
When you check-in to fly to Australia, airline staff will electronically confirm that you have a valid visa to travel to Australia before you board the plane.
This happens even if you have a visa label in your passport.
What will happen if I provide false or misleading information with my visa application?
If DIBP find that you provided a bogus document or false or misleading information with your visa application:
- DIBP might refuse your visa application
- DIBP might prevent you from being granted another visa for three years and, if your visa has already been granted, DIBP might cancel it.
Remember that you are responsible for the information included in your application, even if someone else completes it for you.
